Discount Code Offer FAQ

What is a Discount Code Offer?

Simply put, a discount code offer is a means to determine interest in carrying a product... without having to take pre-order money for it. Because, we loathe the pre-order model... and we suspect you do as well. So the Oracle wanted to try something different.

So, the idea is to have you buy something that we already have in stock, then give you a discount code toward the other thing you want. Then you use the discount code towards the other thing when it is ready to ship

When is code for a Discount Code Offer issued?

It is issued when the other thing is in stock. You will have 60 days from the time of issuance to use the code against the other thing only.

Can I use the Discount Code Offer for something other than the product I'm getting it for?

No. It defeats the purpose of this whole endeavor, really, and undermines the ability to make the other thing available for others.

Then what's the idea?

The idea is that people work hard for their money, and they shouldn't have to throw it at the hope that a product will be made (your standard "pay money toward a product not yet available").

Essentially, you're ordering something already in stock that will be shipped to you, and you'll receive a discount code of equal value for a different, specified other thing.

Why can't I just put money down for the other thing directly?

Again, we dislike pre-orders and want people to get something in return. Also, we've seen everyone burned by other pre-order methods before, and don't want that for anyone. This is a way to change that approach, and improve things. Because... collecting geekery shouldn't be painful.

So, the value of the thing I'm buying is equal to the other thing that I may be getting?

No. The value of the potential other thing is not equal to the discount code for the other thing.

For example, if you buy something through the special link for $25 USD, then you'll receive a $25.00 discount code that can be redeemed towards the other thing your interested, should it become available.

Now, that other thing may be (for example) $35.00 USD, so you would pay the difference (plus any other taxes, shipping, etc.) after you enter the discount code. Also, again, the discount code is issued when the other thing becomes physically available to ship to you.

Is it a discount code or a store credit voucher thing?

It's a discount code that expires in 60 days of issuance. (It is issued when the other thing becomes available stocked.)

Why don't you just send it to me immediately? Why wait?

  1. Because the code expires within 60 days of issuance.
  2. For another, because if we were to issue it now, and the thing is ready to ship on day 61, you wouldn't be able to use it.
  3. By issuing it when the item becomes available, you're reminded that the thing is in stock and you have 60 days to make your purchase, if you decide to even use the code.

If the other thing doesn't end up getting made, will I get something for it?

You are already getting the product you ordered. All you're doing is reserving a potential discount code of equal value for the other thing.

That said, we're not unsympathetic and can cross the bridge when we come to it. The idea here is to make things easier for all concerned, within reason of course.
